It is with great sadness that the Staff and Partners of the Abbotts Group advise of the passing of Paul Hodson.
Paul has been the Managing Director and face of Abbotts Wealth Management (AWM) since 2012 and brought a highly professional, enthusiastic and personable presence to our Group. Paul’s tireless battle against cancer was lost on May 5th and the Staff and Clients of the Abbotts Group will greatly miss him. Paul chose to continue working throughout his long battle which is a testament to how much he enjoyed his professional work with his clients and colleagues who have been privileged to stand beside Paul during his stoic battle. Paul was well aware of the challenges he was facing and developed his team with a view to the future. Briony Knott in particular has been able to grow her diverse financial planning skills under Paul’s careful stewardship and guidance and has been steadily introduced to Paul’s clients over the last few years. The recent introduction of Andre Parker as a senior financial planner with extensive professional experience and Michelle Baker and Fiona Chua as administrative and planning assistants has ensured that many of Paul’s operational, administrative and financial planing duties have been able to be managed with his health and the financial needs of his clients in mind.
Chris Higham and David Drake continue on the Board of AWM in their roles as Chairman and Compliance Directors respectively as the business transitions its financial planning executive to Andre Parker and Briony Knott.
As a client of Paul’s and Abbotts Wealth Management we can assure you that Paul and his fellow directors have developed a smooth transition and pathway to manage your personal financial planning needs. This pathway was established some years ago and has been able to develop and mature progressively over time. Briony Knott (CFP) joined us in 2016 and brings 15 years of professional advisory experience to our practice. Briony joined us to provide greater scope for the business to manage a growing client base and has had extensive direct exposure to Paul’s clients and indirect exposure to all of the businesses’ clients. Briony has both the experience and the specific skills to manage your financial planning needs. Andre Parker (CFP) coincidentally was introduced to us by Briony in 2018 and likewise brings over 19 years of industry specialisation. Andre has an extensive personal client base, but adds both capacity and professional financial planning skills to Abbotts Wealth Management and is available to manage your needs when required. Fiona Chua was only recently recruited to add depth to our financial planning team and brings 6 years of professional experience together with a University pathway background with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from Curtin University and Diploma of Financial Planning. Fiona represents the new wave of professionally qualified planners entering the financial services industry and is now a valued resource within our planning division.
The loss of Paul to us all is extremely sad and his never-say-die personality cannot be replaced, but he was a highly professional and dedicated financial planner and he had prepared thoroughly for every eventuality that may come his way. Abbotts Wealth Management‘s preparedness to manage your financial planing needs in his absence is a testament to his own professionalism and we trust that the disruption of this change will be minimised for you.

I have just returned from 9 weeks travel and shocked to hear of the passing of Paul. Unbelievable, as he looked so well when we met in January. I had no idea. I’ll miss his enthusiasm, strong advice and chats. Deepest sympathy to you all at Abbotts, Paul’s wife and young family. Regards Gay Thornton
So sad to hear this news . Paul was very dedicated to his work and our hearts go out to everyone . Taken way to early . Your all in our thoughts. Kind regards, Carr Family
Thank you for the update. Although we knew Paul was unwell for some time it still comes as a shock to hear he is gone. We valued him as a friend as well as his professional advice. The photo below from Paul’s mighty fundraising efforts on the Ride for Cancer last year last year was one of his finest moments. We send our thoughts and best wishes to his family, friends and colleagues. Andrew and Clare Kirke
That’s the saddest email I have ever received. Paul was such a careful, modest bloke; a true gentle man. Always a smile and welcome. I feel his loss as though he was a true friend or family member. All condolences and best wishes to his family and to Abbott’s. Terence Shanahan
Oh wow so sorry to hear about this and I was only conferring with Paul a few weeks ago. Please pass on my condolences. Cancer sucks and I can only add that Paul was the ultimate professional and genuinely asked questions that made us all feel like we were long lost friends. I had a tear when Elvis died and I didn’t personally know him. At present I feel really sad that Paul has been taken so young. I can only imagine how your office must be feeling and as a Veteran know what it’s like to lose good friends. I have had dealings with Briony but never met and hope we can touch base in the future. Thanks for informing me of the situation. Best Regards Lee Beaumont
So very sad to hear of Paul’s passing, I always found Paul kind and helpful when my husband passed away three years ago. I felt he looked after my finances and always did the best for me, my deepest sympathy to his family and his friends and colleagues at Abbotts.R.I.P. Paul. Jenny Briggs.
I am so shocked to hear of Paul’s passing, please convey my condolences to his family and those at Abbott’s. Sincere regards to you all. Ian and Anne Harridge
Thank you for letting me know about Paul’s passing. Not only am I extremely saddened by the news, but also surprised. Over the last months I’ve spoken to Paul on the phone and met with him and had no idea about his illness. I am sure he will be sadly missed by the whole Abbotts team. My condolences to his workmates and family. Kind Regards, Margaret Cala
Good evening Christopher, Briony and team. I’m so very saddened by the news and sorry for your loss. Warm wishes to you all and sincere condolences. Kind regards, Tamatha
To the team at Abbotts Wealth Management, My sincerest condolences to the team on Paul’s passing. It has come as quite a shock as I thought Paul was doing great when I spoke to him in March. I guess he hid it well. Please also pass my sincerest condolences to Paul’s family during this difficult time. I only met them briefly when they stopped in on their way back from Geraldton a few years ago. To me, Paul was the definition of the quiet achiever, picking up the pieces of my account when my previous ‘consultant’ lost the plot and her license. Paul was more than happy to sort through the mess and get things back on track and for that I will be ever grateful. Yours sincerely, Neil Kolker
That is very sad news. Thank you for letting me know. I didn’t know that he was sick and hope that he is now at peace. My deepest condolences to his family. Ros Scott
